War Child based in Cyprus has been responding to the needs of Syrian children and strives to build local capacity for Syrian refugees as much as possible.
This position can be stationed in the countries where WCH has its offices (the successful candidate must be eligible to work in that location).
War Child Programme for Syria
War Child Holland (WCH) is an international non-governmental organization that works exclusively to improve the well-being and resilience of children and youths affected by violence and armed conflict. From its branch in Cyprus, WCH and its partners support children affected by the conflict in Syria through an integrated mix of child protection, education and psychosocial support interventions, while working closely with their caregivers, families and wider communities for maximum and durable impact.
We are seeking to strengthen our team and we are currently seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Safety & Security Coordinator to join our dynamic team of professionals dedicated to helping children and their families positively deal with the consequences of being exposed to armed conflict.
Your Challenge
Ensure that the country office safety and security risks are effectively managed, with protocols and practices in place, active and effective for all staff’s safety & security. The role will promote, enable and support programmatic activity while ensuring compliance with organisational security framework and minimum standards at a global level.
Information management
· Continuously monitor contextual dynamics and developments in relation to security, conflict parties and humanitarian access – and potential impact on WCH and its partners.
· Regularly consult a range of sources to stay up to date with relevant developments.
· Analyse, triangulate and visualise available data and share relevant information & related recommendations with WCH staff and partners.**
· Maintain online filing of all relevant tools, reports and other relevant documentation.**
Partners
· Contribute to capacity and due diligence assessments for prospective partners.
· Facilitate exchange of information, tools, lessons learnt and best practices between WCH partners.**
· Where relevant, build capacity and provide technical support of/to implementing partners in safety & security policies, context analysis, risk analysis and contingency planning.
· Monitor & support partner adherence to minimum safety standards at key project locations.
Technical support and contributions towards internal processes
· Develop and update safety and security plans, tools and SOPs as needed, ensuring adherence to applicable organisational policies.
· Conduct ad-hoc context analysis and risk assessment for selected geographical areas in support of program development and project planning.
· Contribute towards the development of internal and external reports and other deliverables.
· Support the development & review of relevant policies.
· Coordinate the maintenance and utilisation of the Country Officer risk register in accordance with WCH global guidelines & policy.
· Coordinate relevant training and capacity building relating to safety and security.
Liaison & coordination
· Represent WCH in relevant coordination forums and other external platforms.
· Proactive liaise with safety & security counterparts in other agencies and other relevant external stakeholders.
· Serve as the primary Country Office safety & security focal point to War Child’s global Security Advisor and other relevant internal stakeholders.
Travel & regional support
· Develop and regularly update pre-arrival briefing documents for common travel destinations, where relevant in coordination with other War Child Country Offices.
· Provide pre-departure or on-arrival security briefings to traveling staff and serve as the focal point for incident reporting.
· Manage travel authorisation system for staff and visitors in the Middle East + region.
· Provide ad-hoc technical support to other War Child Country Offices in the Middle East + region.
Your Profile
· Knowledge of Arabic and English (written & spoken) is essential.
· At least 2 years of experience working on safety & security in humanitarian contexts.
· Deep understanding of the Syria context, in particular conflict and access dynamics.
· Solid knowledge of security risk management principles (including risk assessments).
· Previous involvement developing and revising SOPs in key thematic areas such as travel, incident management, office safety.
· Demonstrated experience in leading or coordinating contingency and scenario planning processes.
· Experience in capacity development, e.g., through training, skills transfer and/or competency development.
· Good level GIS mapping and other information management skills; familiarity with information management software
· Access to an established network in the Syria humanitarian response capacity and/or excellent networking and communication skills and the ability to build new relationships with external stakeholders.
· Demonstrated experience in remote stakeholder management
· Ability to contribute towards internal and external reports.

Job Location
This position can be stationed in the countries where WCH has its offices, primarily Cyprus, Jordan or Lebanon (the successful candidate must be eligible to work in that location).
Contract
The contract is for at least 1 year with the intention of prolonging.
